Portal 2 is the next side-story in Valve's classic Half-Life series, casting players as unwilling participants in a series of experiments run by Aperture Science - a rival of Black Mesa. Copies should be distributed or available to buy in shops on Thursday 21st April. Players who pre-ordered a retail copy of the game will still need to await their physical copies, as will console gamers. The game is now available to play immediately, though only if you've purchased it on Steam.
The ARG saw players competeing to get Portal 2 released ahead of schedule by rebooting in-game villain, GlaDOS. Players who found all 36 potatoes have been rewarded with a free copy of the entire Valve Pack, which includes all of Valve's previous games and Portal 2. Portal 2 is coming to the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 this April.Valve has released Portal 2 two days ahead of schedule in the culmination of an Alternate Reality Game which saw players collecting hidden potatoes and achievements from a number of indie games. This is an amazing package, and a very pleasant surprise. We can continue to argue about the merits of mice and keyboards versus controllers, we can get the PS3 version and enjoy the PC and Mac versions without paying anything extra, and we'll be able to chat with our friends on other platforms while we do so. This is on a console, ladies and gentleman.

Your game saves can be kept in the cloud to be accessed from any system. You'll also be able to chat, and play with, friends and enemies on the PC and Mac versions of the game. Not only do you get the PS3 version with full Steam integration, but you'll get a free copy of the game for the PC and Mac OS X by linking your PlayStation Network and Steam accounts. You already knew you would be buying Portal 2, but Sony and Valve have made the PlayStation 3 version an impressive value for gamers.
